MINNEAPOLIS -- Kevin Love is used to carrying the beat-up Minnesota Timberwolves lately. This time, he finally had some help when he sat down to take a rest. Love had 42 points and 16 rebounds, Ricky Rubio tied a franchise high with 17 assists, and the Timberwolves beat Paul George and the Indiana Pacers 104-91 on Wednesday night. J.J. Barea scored 12 points off the bench as the Wolves took control early against the Eastern Conference leaders. "This is one of my favourite wins of the season just because we played a very good team," Love said. "We did it without two key players and we fought hard." George led Indiana with 35 points, but managed just two in the fourth quarter as the Pacers lost for the third time in five games, never once taking a lead. "We just didnt have a whole lot of pop tonight," said David West, who scored four points and struggled guarding Love all night. "This is a game that I thought we would come out and play a little better than we did. We just didnt have it, just a step or two slow." It was Loves eighth straight game with at least 25 points and 10 rebounds, the longest streak since Shaquille ONeal accomplished the same feat Jan. 3-19, 2005. Love has an NBA-best 14 games with 30 points and 10 rebounds this season. "I thought a lot of the shots he made was good defence," Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. "You have to give him credit. He is an extraordinary player and he played an extraordinary game tonight." In their first game since the All-Star break as they try to make a late-season run and catch Golden State for the final playoff spot in the West, the Wolves came out running and led by 16 when Love came out for a rest 3 minutes into the second quarter. Minnesotas reserves have been unable to hold their ground when Love goes to the bench recently, but they did fine on Wednesday. Barea, the subject of recent trade rumours, scored eight straight points during one stretch -- including a circus shot on the fast break over C.J. Watson that increased Minnesotas lead to 20 with 6:48 left in the half. "When he gets his rest, we need other people to step up," Barea said. "Tonight, we were able to do that." Love scored 18 points in the third quarter, including a jumper from just inside the 3-point line with 0.8 seconds left that pushed the Wolves lead back up to 10 after an Indiana run. Minnesota, playing without injured starters Nikola Pekovic and Kevin Martin, led by as many as 17 in the third quarter. However, with Love sitting to start the fourth, a jumper from Watson early in the quarter cut Indianas deficit to five and gave the Pacers hope. But again, Minnesotas reserves held on. Barea knocked down a jump shot in front of the Wolves bench to extend the lead back to 11 with 8:33 to play and the Wolves never looked back. "Coach came to me and said hes going to give me a little bit of a rest," Love said. "He came to me during the timeout and said These guys are rolling. I said Great, just keep them in as long as you need to. Those guys just did a great job and really stepped up and took advantage of the opportunity tonight." When Love returned, he reeled in a full-court pass from Rubio with his fingertips and slammed it home to give the Wolves a 98-84 lead. Indiana went into the All-Star break stuck in a shooting slump, but shot 50 per cent in a win over Atlanta on Tuesday. The Pacers made just 8 of 22 shots to start Wednesdays game and finished at 40 per cent. "We will reflect on this," George said. "We really didnt want to lose and drop this game. But we have to move on. Its all about the next game." George Hill finished with 13 points and Lance Stephenson had 10 despite missing his first six shots. NOTES: Wolves coach Rick Adelman on how trade rumours impact players as the deadline approaches: "I think it definitely affects them. But its all part of the business, especially now," he said. ... The Pacers are 8-7 on the second game of a back-to-back. "Not really," Vogel answered after he was asked if he, George and Roy Hibbert have caught up on rest after All-Star weekend. "Im a little more tired than usual. Im sure those guys are. But it doesnt mean anything. Still have to go out and win games." The Wolves still dont know when Pekovic or Martin will return. Adelman said Martin will get his injured thumb examined again in the next day or two. .. Wolves centre Ronny Turiaf left in the fourth quarter with a right knee injury and didnt return. Those traits were clear to the 24,071 at Olympic Stadium on Saturday as the Impact dominated the scoring chances but settled for a 2-2 draw with the New York Red Bulls in a battle of still-winless Major League Soccer teams.Ronald Koeman returns to St Marys Stadium for the first time when Everton travel to Southampton for Sundays Premier League meeting live on Sky Sports. The Dutchman raised eyebrows when he swapped sixth-placed Southampton for the 11th-placed Toffees in the summer, signing a three-year contract at Goodison Park after two years on the south coast.Everton sit five points ahead of Southampton after the first three months of the new campaign, but did Koeman make the right call? We weigh up the cases for and against with an expert verdict from Matt Le Tissier… FORKoeman cited Evertons ambition as the main factor behind his decision, and while summer spending did not come close to the mooted £100m figure, there was evidence of new owner Farhad Moshiris intentions with the £28m signing of Yannick Bolasie from Crystal Palace. Everton manager Ronald Koeman greets Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola That deal, by way of contrast, was worth nearly twice as much as Southamptons club-record move for Sofiane Boufal, and it highlighted the difference in financial firepower that convinced Koeman to swap the south coast for Merseyside.Everton were frustrated in their efforts to sign Moussa Sissoko and Lucas Perez, among others, but Koeman is expected to receive more backing from Moshiri in January. Indeed, he has already expressed an interest in Manchester Uniteds Wayne Rooney and Memphis Depay - targets that would have been out of reach at his former club. Soton vs Everton November 27, 2016, 4:15pm Live on Get Sky Sports Get a Sky Sports pass Its not just about signings, either. From Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana to Morgan Schneiderlin and Victor Wanyama, Koeman was powerless to stop a string of key players from departing St Marys during his time at Southampton. It was far from ideal, and while Everton did lose John Stones to Manchester City this summer, the £50m deal suited both parties, and their success in resisting Chelseas efforts to sign Romelu Lukaku was the kind of strong statement Koeman had been craving. The Belgian is one of the Premier Leagues finest strikers. Southampton simply dont have anyone like him. Romelu Lukaku has impressed under Ronald Koeman this season Koeman also has plenty of room for improvement in his new environment. The upshot of guiding Southampton to a sixth-placed finish last season was that it would have been a massive task to continue their progression. But while there were suspicions that the Saints had hit their ceiling, there was real scope for improvement at Everton. Its not been a straightforward start and performances have been mixed, but the Toffees are level on points with sixth-placed Manchester United, five ahead of Southampton and well within reach of the European places.AGAINSTEverton boast more spending power than Southampton, but Koeman has left behind a club who had mastered the transfer market. The Saints ability to effectively replace key players with cheaper alternatives allowed them to defy the odds season after season, with Oriol Romeus recent emergence the latest succcess story.dddddddddddd Ronald Koeman guided Southampton to a sixth-placed finish last season Everton hope the appointment of former Leicester recruitment guru Steve Walsh as their director of football will help them establish the same kind of system, but its not guaranteed, and Everton missed out on a number of targets during the summer. It could take time to make things work, whereas at Southampton the building blocks were already in place. The same logic can be applied to the argument that Everton have more room to improve. Koeman may have struggled to match last years sixth-placed finish at Southampton, but he had nurtured stability there. At Everton, on the other hand, he inherited a team in disarray after Roberto Martinezs tenure. Theres money to spend, but its still a challenging rebuilding job. Everton 1-1 Swansea There is also an argument that Koeman might have been better off building on his impressive work at Southampton and waiting for a bigger offer. Everton are a prestigious club with a proud history, of course, but the move was seen as a sideways step in many quarters. Could another year at St Marys have opened other doors?Koeman has made no secret of his ambition to manage his former club Barcelona, but starting over at another middling Premier League club might not be seen as the best way to go about building his CV. By leaving Southampton, Koeman also missed an opportunity to have another crack at the Europa League.MATT LE TISSIERS VERDICTI said at the time that I was surprised that he almost made a backwards step. I think its going to be tougher for him at Everton than he thought. No disrespect to Everton but I thought he could have got a bigger move given the great work he did at Southampton.Having said that, I think it would be too early for him to regret moving. Theres still plenty of time for the investment, assuming it is there. You can understand why he went, with there being more money for him to attract players. I think its going to be tougher for him at Everton than he thought. Matt Le Tissier on Ronald Koeman Id expect them to invest in January and the summer as I think he wanted to assess his squad first. If he doesnt spend big then I think that might be a sign that he has been sold down the river a bit.Its been a decent start but hes come across plenty of bumps in the road.HAVE YOUR SAY Also See: Koeman: Everton start was flat WATCH: Premier League goals Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys Jerseys From China Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '
