GLENDALE, Ariz. - Shane Doan skated toward Frederik Andersen, sending a shot he intended to put between the goalies legs. Instead, Doans stick broke and the blade sailed over Andersens shoulder.Confused by what happened, Doan glanced back just in time to see the puck trickle over the line. Even then, Arizonas captain wasnt sure if the goal counted because of the broken stick. It did, giving Doan his first shootout goal since 2012 and the Coyotes a rare winning streak.Doan scored the only goal in the shootout with the broken stick, Devan Dubnyk stopped 36 shots and the Coyotes beat the Anaheim Ducks 2-1 on Saturday night. In your head, youre like: Did that really just happen? Is it going to work? Doan said. When I saw him point at the net, I was pretty excited.Zbynek Michalek scored in the first period and Arizona played well in its own end against one of the NHLs most explosive teams.Dubnyk was sharp from the start and gave the Coyotes a chance with some big saves in the third period when Anaheim picked up the pressure. After both teams failed to score the first three rounds of the shootout, Arizona coach Dave Tippett sent out Doan for the fourth. He hadnt taken a shot in a shootout this season and appeared to have no chance at scoring when his stick broke on the shot. But with the blade distracting Andersen as it sailed past, the puck trickled toward the right post and just sneaked over the line before Anaheims goalie could react.Too bad you cant get a save for stopping the blade, Andersen said. For a split second, that was my reaction (following the blade), it happened so fast. Yeah, thats a weird goal.Andersen was sharp after the holiday break, stopping 28 shots and giving up two goals on screens — one by Sam Gagner on Michaleks goal, the other by Doans stick.Rene Bourque scored for the Ducks, who are still undefeated in one-goal games (17-0-6) despite the fluky shootout goal.More power to them, Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said. Its a lucky goal, but they got it.Anaheim was arguably the NHLs best team before the holiday break, rising to the top of the NHL with 51 points while tying for the league lead with 23 wins. The Coyotes have been one of the leagues worst teams, struggling at both ends of the ice to lurk near the bottom of the Western Conference. Arizona entered the break with 12 wins — five of those against Edmonton after beating the struggling Oilers 5-1 on Tuesday night. The Ducks jumped on Arizona early, scoring in the first period when Bourque beat Dubnyk on a one-timer from just outside the crease after Ryan Getzlaf juked his way through Arizonas defence.Michalek answered 1:13 later with a hard shot from near the blue line that Andersen had trouble seeing as Gagner skated past. The score held up through the second period, thanks to the goalies.Andersen had some tough stops, splaying out on one to rob Mikkel Boedker on a rebound. Dubnyk was solid, too, the highlight a snatching glove save on Patrick Maroons shot from the left circle.Dubnyk made a few more tough saves and got a break early in the third, when a shot by Andrew Cogliano got by him but hit the crossbar. Dubnyk stopped 18 shots in the period, including a blocker stop on Maroon with a second left in regulation.Andersen made another big save late in overtime, stopping Antoine Vermette on a semi-breakaway.That set the stage for Doans stick-breaking winner, giving Arizona consecutive wins for the first time since beating Vancouver and Edmonton on Nov. 14 and 16.Ive seen a lot of things in this game for a long time and never seen that before, Tippett said. I just watched the replay and you couldnt do it again if you tried it a thousand times.Notes: The game included the players with the three longest active consecutive games streak: Cogliano (577), Vermette (428) and Arizona defenceman Keith Yandle (420). ... Doan played game No. 1,350, passing Kirk Muller for 45th on the NHLs career list. ... ... Arizona LW Lauri Korpikoski returned after missing four games with a lower-body injury. Enzo Perez Jersey . The former world No. 1 Djokovic, who is the top seed here despite being ranked No. 2, snuck past 35-year-old Czech showman Radek Stepanek in four high- quality sets, 6-4, 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5), on Centre Court. Djokovic appeared relieved when he converted on his first match point by swatting a cross-court forehand winner that just caught the line to end an affair that featured only two service breaks. Guido Pizarro Jersey ... maybe even more than that. Maybe all season I have to take a few blows. http://www.argentinasoccerauthentic.com ... ca-Jersey/. - Carter Verhaeghe scored the winner with 41 seconds to go as the Niagara IceDogs edged the North Bay Battalion 3-2 to even their first-round series at a game apiece in Ontario Hockey League playoff action on Sunday. The 26-year-old Redditch, England, native played three of his past four seasons under Rennie with the Carolina RailHawks of the North American Soccer League. The Tampa Bay Lightning took advantage of the Vancouver Canucks desire to shed a veteran defenceman. Numbers Game looks at the deal sending Jason Garrison back to the state of Florida. The Lighting Get: D Jason Garrison and LW Jeff Costello. Garrison, 29, is a defenceman with good size and a cannon of a shot from the point who tied a career-high with 33 points last seasn and will be able to handle top-four minutes on the Tampa Bay defence. Garrison has played more than 20 minutes per game in each of the past four seasons and, over the course of those four years, no defenceman has fired shots at a higher rate on the power play. Over the past three seasons, he ranks 15th among defencemen with 2.16 shots on goal per game and has missed a total of seven games, so hes been durable. Last season wasnt Garrisons best, in terms of possession stats, but hes had positive possession numbers in the past, so last year shouldnt preclude him from being a useful part of the Tampa Bay defence. In Tampa Bay, the Lightning really needed an upgrade on defence. Victor Hedman and Matt Carle were the only defencemen on the roster that averaged more than 20 minutes per game last season and Garrison will add stability, as well as a power play point threat, to that group. Garrison had to waive his no-trade clause for the deal to go through, and he has four years, at a cap hit of $4.6-million, remaining on his contract. Its also not a bad deal for Tampa Bay since the contracdt was front-loaded, so the last four years come at a total cost of $15.6-million (an aveerage of $3.dddddddddddd9-million per season). Costello is a 23-year-old winger who finished a four-year career at Notre Dame, scoring 82 points in 145 games. He was acquired from Ottawa at the trade deadline, but hes not signed and may be set to become a pro free agent after August 15. The Lightning dont currently have much room on their reserve list, and the Canucks could also use the extra room in their attempts to acquire more players. The Canucks Get: A second-round pick. The 50th overall pick presents about a one-in-three chance of netting an NHL player. While its useful to get an asset, the move is more about clearing room on the Vancouver blueline. Chris Tanev joins Dan Hamhuis, Kevin Bieksa and Alexander Edler in the top four on defence, and newly-acquired Luca Sbisa can pair with Ryan Stanton on the third pair, so there was room for the Canucks to move out an established NHL defenceman and, just as importantly move out the accompanying salary. Its been a busy day, just leading up to the draft, for the Canucks, so there could very well be more to come but, whats been done establishes that Vancouver will be younger than they were last season, with financial flexibility to make moves this summer if they so choose. With a new regime, it would come as no surprise if the Canucks continue to be active in their attempt to re-build the roster.
