EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New York Giants offence is seemingly going to go in a new direction. The Giants on Tuesday hired Green Bay Packers quarterback coach Ben McAdoo as their new offensive co-ordinator after a quick two-week search. The hiring of the 36-year-old McAdoo is a strong indication that there will be changes next season after the offence underperformed under long-time co-ordinator Kevin Gilbride in missing the playoffs for the fourth time in five seasons. "I think this is the best coach for the job," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. "With his experiences, I think he brings a lot to the table. Our players are going to be exited to hear what he has to say." McAdoo has spent the past eight seasons mentoring under Mike McCarthy and his uptempo offence. The first six years were as the tight ends coach and the last two working with the quarterbacks. "We have a great opportunity in front of us and I cant wait to get started," said McAdoo, who interviewed for the job on Monday. "This is obviously a big step. Its also another step in the progression of a coachs career. Its a golden opportunity for me. Its an opportunity I feel Ive been groomed for. And I look forward to it." While the Giants werent afraid to go for the big play under Gilbride, they were a very traditional offence, stressing the run and a balanced attack. It did lead to two Super Bowl titles, but it looked stagnant this past season with an injury plagued offence line and sub-par season by two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning. Gilbride retired after the season, insisting the poor season did not influence his decision and that he was not forced out. The Giants ranked 28th in the NFL in both yards (307.5) and points per game (18.4) in 2013. Green Bays offence was third in the league in yards a game (400.3) and tied for eighth in scoring (26.1 points a game). "Ive heard a lot of good things about Coach McAdoo," Manning said. "I was able to talk to him over the phone last week and we had a great conversation. Obviously hes had a ton of success in Green Bay and I look forward to working with him and improving our offence." The Packers won the NFC North despite having quarterback Aaron Rodgers missed seven games with a broken left collarbone. After Rodgers was injured, McAdoo had to work with three different starters -- Seneca Wallace, Scott Tolzien and Matt Flynn, who started four straight games before Rodgers returned for the regular-season finale against Chicago and the playoffs. "Think about what they overcame this year in Green Bay," Coughlin said. "One of them (Flynn) wasnt even on their roster to start the season. And they still got in the playoffs. We beat them when Tolzien was in there. Then Flynn came in and they won a critical, critical game with him at quarterback in Dallas. They lost to the Steelers when they could have cushioned their opportunity a little bit. The ball was down in close and it just got away from them. But then they beat Chicago (in Week 17 in a winner-take-all game." The Giants interviewed four candidates in their search and many believed the job would go to former Giants quarterbacks coach and recent Tampa Bay offensive co-ordinator Mike Sullivan, However, his ties to the past might have worked against him with team co-owner John Mara looking for changes. New York also interviewed former Tennessee Titans offensive co-ordinator Dowell Loggains and former Houston Texans quarterbacks coach and UCLA coach Karl Dorrell. "Hes a very detail-oriented, meticulous teacher, a fundamentalist, first and foremost," Coughlin said. "I was very, very impressed by the presentation that he made, in terms of the fundamental details of his presentation, whether it is quarterback fundamentals, offensive philosophy. I was just very, very impressed with that." McAdoo has also worked with the Niners and Saints and coached in college at Fairfield, Stanford, Akron, Pittsburgh and Michigan State. Manning has played in the same offensive system during his 11 seasons with the Giants, so this will be a learning year. "Heres what I expect," Coughlin said. "I think the players will respond to this. Were going to try to compromise the system with what we have here. However, there will be change. And that change will be very positive and very well-received by our team and our players. And if our players are scrambling around to learn a new system - good. Thats another fire in their rear end." Darcy Kuemper Jersey . Future Hall of Famer Ricky Ray is in his prime and back for a third season in double blue. The 34-year old was magnificent in 2013, throwing for just under 2,900 yards despite missing eight games, tossing an impressive 21 touchdowns against just two interceptions, completing 66 per cent of his passes in the process. Anze Kopitar Jersey . -- Navy football player Will McKamey, who has been hospitalized since collapsing at practice three days ago, has died while in a coma. http://www.officialkingshockey.com/Marc ... ne-Jersey/. And he said Sunday that players believe nobody in Sterlings family should be able to own the Los Angeles Clippers if hes gone. Luc Robitaille Jersey . So it was understandable if he was a little shaky early in his return to the Texas Rangers rotation. He spent most of the outing searching for his best stuff, but still managed to shut down the struggling Minnesota Twins offence. Wayne Gretzky Jersey . The win puts the final playoff berth in Group A in question. If the Czechs beat Slovakia on Tuesday, they will go through. If they lose, Germany will get the last quarter-final berth.MILWAUKEE -- Brandon Knight took a couple dribbles and an important step forward in turning into the lead guard for the Milwaukee Bucks. The third-year pro went shot for shot with Knicks star Carmelo Anthony down the stretch before nailing the most important one of the night. Knight made a 3-pointer with 1.4 seconds left and finished with 25 points, and the Bucks snapped a six-game losing streak with a 101-98 victory Monday night over New York. "Thats his shot. He loves that little step-back, half-dribble 3," said forward Khris Middleton, who had 19 points. With no timeouts and the ball in his hand for the Bucks last possession, Knight quickly but calmly brought the ball up the floor after Anthony (36 points) hit a 3-pointer with 19.4 seconds left. He played out the seconds ahead in his head. Dont get caught in a "bad situation" off a screen or trap, an outcome that Knight said had played out too many times before. "So I just walked it down, got into rhythm and was able to knock down that shot," Knight said. Raymond Felton leaped into the air with an outstretched arm to try to disrupt Knight, then turned in disbelief as the Bucks guard rushed down the other end to celebrate. "When I went back and looked at it, Ray kind of backed off a little bit. I thought he could have been a little more aggressive," coach Mike Woodson said. "Rays hand was up there." The Knicks had one last chance, though Anthony misfired on a deep 3 before stumbling back into the first row of seats as time expired. He finished with 36 points. Save for a sprinkling of onlookers wearing Knicks blue, the 11,000-plus fans at the Bradley Center rewarded the Bucks with a rousing ovation. Wins -- let alone this kind of dramatic victory -- have been rare in this 9-39 season. But Monday was especially important for Milwaukee because they fended off numerous runs by the streaky Knicks, who lost a second straight following a four-game winning streak. This is the same team thats also had streaks of five wins and nine losses, too. New York hopes this isnt the start of another bad run. New York rallied from a 110-point deficit in the fourth quarter, but ended up falling to the worst team in the league two nights after losing to the Southeast Division-leading Miami Heat.dddddddddddd "There are no freebies in the NBA. You can lose on any night to any team if you dont play well," said centre Tyson Chandler (seven points, 10 rebounds). Middleton hit a season-high five 3s for Milwaukee, which also snapped a seven-game skid to New York. Rookie Giannis Antetokounmpo had 15 points and sparked the crowd that included his family with a rousing dunk in the fourth quarter, while Zaza Pachulia also gave the Bucks a lift off the bench with 12 points and seven rebounds. New York was usually never more than a few possessions away and the last few minutes got even tighter. Anthony hesitated before firing up a 3 with 19 seconds left to tie the game at 98 before Knights last-second heroics. Unlike most of the rest of the season, the Bucks had a counterpunch for every Knicks spurt. "I made some mistakes at the end that can cost us the game, but Brandon was there," Antetokounmpo said. "The hero was there to knock down the shot." Knights back-door layup off a pretty feed by Pachulia with 27.5 seconds left gave Milwaukee a three-point lead to answer Feltons 3 on the previous possession. Anthony finished 13 of 25 from the field and 5 of 10 from 3-point range. J.R. Smith had 30 points and seven rebounds. Knight went 10 of 23 from the field and 4 of 8 from long range. "My teammates did a great job tonight persevering," Knight said. "Our past habits have been to drop our heads and say Here we go again." New York led by seven early and had plenty of chances to gain control but went through inopportune dry spells and went just 15 of 24 from the foul line. Chandler was 1 of 6. Notes: Iman Shumpert returned to the Knicks starting lineup after missing two games with a sprained right foot. He finished with five in 24 minutes. Forward Kenyon Martin sat out again with a nagging left ankle injury. ... Bucks F Caron Butler left in the fourth quarter with a sprained left ankle.
